[s-cars] NAC: What to do to a car standing to 10 months

Hi Tony:
I just took my //S6 out of hibernation last week. She was sitting since
October of 2005 in my DC area, non-climate controlled garage. I did trickle
the battery as well as roll her back and forth every few weeks to minimize
flat-spotting. She got fresh oil before her slumber and fresh brake fluid
and coolant, t-belt, etc. last week. I cranked for about 15 seconds to
build fuel pressure, stopped and cranked again. She came to life with no
issues other than some lifter noise which soon settled down. Before
starting her, I did hand crank prolly a total of 20 revolutions. Partly to
check on the t-belt work but also to pre-oil. I don't know if 20 revs
really did anything with the oil but it made me feel better anyway.
Hopefully you will have the same non-eventful results. I had quite a bit of
rust on my rotors but that quickly disappeared. I think that if the Jag was
in good shape when she was put to sleep you will have no issues.
Regards,
Mark

Subject: [s-cars] NAC: What to do to a car standing to 10 months
Hi all,
Just wanted to seek the advice of the list for problem I have. To cut a
long story short, I will be taliking ownership of a car, a 2003 Jaguar XJ8,
that has been standing in a warehouse for about 10 months, by the time I get
it.
It needs a new battery as current one fails to hold charge. Will probably
need new tires as current ones may be flat spotted as it hasn't moved in all
that time.
Is there anything else? Will the brake calipers be OK or is that a wait and
see till I test it kind of issue. I plan to take it to the local Jag dealer.
Also plan to change oil.
I am planning to drive it cross country from LA to Ottawa, Canada - which
will lead to other x-border issues like DRLs, safety, (it has kms on
speedo). Is there any other x-border issues to deal with?
Thanks in advance,
Tony
96 S6 (and soon to have 03 XJ8!)
