I would look at the procedure to resynchronize the remote before looking
elsewhere. You will need 2 keys. If this remote works you can just
saw off
the key stub and use it as a remote fob on the key ring. There is
usually some
visible light with the IR pulse when you use the remote that is some
indication
that it operates. The remote is common to the A6 as well, so it is
not that rare,
just used ones are old and new ones are expensive.
If the system doesn't work, look at the link Dave Forgie sent for
probably the
best fix. I would not pour anything more into the IR system than $20
for a used
remote key that isn't keyed to your car.
