That's because he doesn't know what he's talking about.  Have him go to
the body section (Main Group 8) for the 100/Avant quattro and he'll find
all sorts of references to the S4 in the remarks column for the parts
that are specific to that model.

For whatever reason, the earlier models don't list the sports versions
(S2, S4) in the title but they are included in the group.  The S2 would
be either in the "Coupe quattro" model, or the "80/90/Avant quattro" for
the sedan and avant versions of the S2 (Euro ETKA only).  Similarly the
S4 is in with the model it is based on, the "100/Avant quattro".  It
wasn't until they switched to the A series nomenclature that they added
the sports versions in the title, such as "A4/S4/Avant quattro", or
"A6/S6/Avant quattro".
