There is nothing to suggest that a quality made SS
(DOT approved) braided brake line is not safe for use
on the street.

Failures are usually prone to improper routing of the
lines (where the braid will rub against metal) or that
the connectors to the nuts are poorly constructed.

After putting ~250 k miles are cars equipped with
quality SS brake lines, I have not had a failure yet. 
(be aware that my brake fluid gets flushed annually
with DOT 5.1 and all hoses, hard lines and connections
are inspected at the same interval.
