[s-cars] auto close

Mark;

The relay that activates the auto close feature is located under the drivers
side A pillar kick panel. These relays are failure-prone and are very
expensive to replace (~$350). When they fail, they result in a steady ~100
mA current drain that drains the battery. You don't need to cut wires; just
remove the circuit breaker in the under-hood panel that feeds the auto close
feature(I think its breaker A1). The power windows will still work but the
auto close feature is disabled. This will fix the current drain issue until
you replace the relay (if you decide to do so).
I went through this with my '94 S4. I never did replace the relay and the
breaker is still out. I just remember to close the windows and sunroof
before I leave the car :).

While at risk of having every other s-car with-in e-mail distance decide to
get inflicted with the same issue...

Since getting the car back form the painter, there has been a few issues.
Lately, a relay from the drivers kick panel area has been chattering after
shut down. Also caused by the same problem is a handy feature where the car
rolls up all the windows and locks the doors, all on it's own. Very handy,
until you leave keys in the car. Lastly the battery gets killed overnight by
something (likely the chattering relay).

I have seen (read) about this before, and the answer was to cut a wire I
think.
List wisdom ??

Oh, and no one going to the paint store ?
