If I could, I would- it wouldn't be that hard to make them up there, though-
you
just need the bread and a good grill cook.
Ultra-thin sliced ribeye steak, good Italian bread, vidalia onions, aged
provolone
and some salt and pepper would do the trick. You need a good hot cooking
surface,
enough oil to keep the meat from sticking and cook until it's very slightly
browned
(depending on the shop, they chop the steak up while it's cooking- some
places leave
it in thin slabs). Throw the fried onions and the cheese on top, then take
the roll and pick
up the stuff off the grill with the roll. The onions and the provolone are
optional- I prefer provolone over Cheez Whiz or American cheese. Now I'm
getting hungry. :-)
Whose sandwiches did you get? There are so many good shops, depending on
your preference- Pat's Geno's, Jim's, Tony Luke's, John's, etc. All in South
Philly,
although Dalessandro's, Chubby's and Barry's in Roxborough are good
alternatives.
