[s-cars] Engine Noise

I have not been so lucky.
After only 4 laps (brakes faded badly) of moderate (not revved over 5200
rpm, and running 14 psi boost) track time where the oil pressure did not drop
alarmingly, and the oil level to the top line on the stick, my WX spun #5 rod
bearing. It did not sound like a rod, but more like a slightly loose wrist pin.
On tear down I was astounded at the condition of #5 rod bearing.
I still have it also for show and tell, as it looks terrible.
I5's are _not_ bullet-proof!

I can beat that, impressive as it is. After ticking over 200,000 miles I
more then QUADRUPLED the factory boost level and raised the rev limit nearly
2,000rpm over stock. That didn't kill it so I later added nitrous and a
larger turbo, plus some other things. After a few cross country trips plus
*tons* of beating I blew a head gasket and decided to do a full teardown.
Only moifications effecting longevity were stiffer valve springs and ARP
head bolts.

I even once had a bad puppy incident when I, embarasingly enough, double
gasketed an oil filter and had it blow out all the oil 2 blocks away from
the shop. Heard a strange "Pop" while sitting at a red light. Not knowing
exactly what happened I drove (gently) across the intersection and into a
parking lot with most if not all of the engine oil on the ground behind me.

After all of that all rod and crank bearings looked as though they had
10,000 miles on them if that. I kept a few for show and tell they were so
good.
