The closest I have come to making money on an Audi is the 1991 200 TQ Wagon
that I own. I bought it for 2400 and have about 2k into it (stinkin
clutch)...so I might be able to break even...but it would be close at 146k
miles.

Subject: Re: [s-cars] FS: 1993 S4
No one likes to see their favorite ride devaluated by low priced
sales that
others may try to use as comparable, but, let's face facts. It
doesn't take
too much deferred maintenance to add up to the point where the car value
is headed for the negative range, especially when some of these items
are
appearance items, like paint, and the mechanical upkeep deficiencies
are obvious.
Then, much of the value of the car can disappear in uncertainty over
any hidden
defects that are expensive repair items like twin turbos, timing belt
due, and a front
end rebuild needed. These are things that are depressing the 2.7t
market as well.
Just look how uncertainty affects S8 prices lately (as well as the
certainty of high
cost repairs).
OTOH, are there any URS owners on this list that do not have more
invested in their
car than the market will return? Once you get to a point that owning
and driving the
URS is no longer that valuable to you, your value of the car has to
change, in some
cases by orders of magnitude. If you have been able to enjoy the
ride and have
driven much of that value out of the car then you are a clear winner.
Besides, who bought their URS thinking they would make money on the
deal? :-)
