[s-cars] 1.8t coil conversion saga

I should probably through my $0.02 in here.
I ran the 1.8t coilpacks for a while on my S6 avant. When I was running
motronic with a custom Mihnea chipset I didn't have any failures on the
street but at the race track I was tossing coils left and right (4 on
different cylinders at a single track event). I have never run the
coilpack cover when I was running the 1.8t coils.
Those were all coilpacks with part numbers ending in 115L. From what I
understand, the latest revision is 115R which may or may not be less
prone to failure.
As another data point, I converted my car over to 034EFI StageIIC
standalone engine management which lets me control the dwell map sent to
the coils. It wasn't very long before I ripped the 1.8t coilpack
harness off the car. The most base dwell I could run was about 2ms
without blowing up coils. For reference I now run remote mounted coils
with 8ms base dwell with no issues at all.
Here's a pic of the remote coil setup on my car running via motronic
(though I'm running standalone full time now, so no more MAF :) )

My recommendation would be to try running the 115R coils to see if they
are more reliable on your car. If they still fail, I think you might
want to look long and hard at replacing whatever coil pack or pos failed
on your factory components and put those back into service...
