It's all about risk. A friend of mine had his kid in the third row of a GM
van when it was T-boned. The tailgait opened, the third seat got ejected
with two kids still in it. Both killed.

Thing about tailgates is that the lock mechanism is only a single action and
not the same as the other four doors.

I wouldn't!
