[s-cars] let's talk about spark plugs

I lost a center electrode as well, and that was on a totally stock engine.
Luckily the electrode got wedged between the insulator and the ground
electrode....unfortunately this caused the coil to burn up, but much better
than a toasted engine...wow.

Why stray from the tried and true Bosch? Where to begin... I ran those
plugs in my engine which is GT30R equipped... header, etc. I had repeated
plug failures. Some began losing the center electrode, becoming loose, and
developing a misfire. One even dropped the entire center electrode AND the
ceramic insulator into the combustion chamber. Hap had a similar experience
on his brand new 2.5, and it destroyed the whole engine, head and all.
Pederson lost a few as well. And there have been others.
I wouldn't touch the Bosch plug with a 10 foot pole. I've been running the
NGK Iridium plugs with no problems whatsoever. They also offer 2 other
varieties of plugs that are cheaper, but I haven't tried them yet.
NGK for me, and nothing else. http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/

Mike:
Short answer - why stray from the manufacturer recommended plug that is
tried and true?
This plug will last upwards of 50,000 km which is 2-3 years for the average
driver.
Assuming the other plug lasts the same time, at a $10 premium over generic
plugs, we are talking about $16-25 more per year.
Why bother?
Unless of course someone can prove that a different plug is better.
Cheers,
Sean Douglas
