[s-cars] Check system

(Brief reminder: urS6 with dead autocheck system display)

Thanks for the suggestion, Stott. Shoulda thunka that
myself. Duh. :-( OK. Swapped the instrument clusters
today. Pulled both and stuck the old one in the new(er) car. It
worked as designed. The check system display functioned as did the
radio station display. Then when I fired the engine up I got a beep
and the icon saying the brake wear sensor has worn through came on
with its accompanying "beep".

The "beep" has been there all the time but the display has been
dark. (And is again since I put the instrument clusters back where
they belong.) If I can get the display working I can deal with the
wear sensor signal. BIRA system 3 brakes are on the car and the
sensor leads can be shorted out easily enough. I suspect that a PO
simply got tired of the wear sensor icon and decided to "fix" the problem.

OK, the fault is located in the new IC and is not some other piece
elsewhere which has been pulled ot cut or... Close visual
side-by-side examination of both ICs with the back off both ICs
showed no readily apparent differences such as a cut wire or a cut
trace on a board or whatever. Bentley, on the check system, assumes
that the display functions and that any problems will be associated
with the "other end" of the system - the sensors it reports on.

Has anyone repaired or replaced the display unit? Does anyone have a
nice IC for sale with ~87K miles on it? Or how easily can the
cluster mileage be reset to that of the car? Probably illegal, huh? :-(
