Matt,
Hey, I don't know what kind of driver you are or if you go to the track with your car but I have had H&R springs with Bilstiens on my 94 S4 and S6 + springs with Bilstiens shocks on our 95 S6 Avant both with HRSB's and both driven as daily drivers and occasionally tracked and the S6+ springs are the way to go in my honest opinion. The H&R's were too low for daily driving on any rough roads and tire wear can be a problem. With the addition of the HRSB the S6+ springs and bilstien shocks have a very nice firm but not harsh ride and most body roll is gone. I'd even go as far as to say the avant is more neutral than my S4 was in the corners, probably because of the extra weight in the rear but the car is very easy to rotate and plant with a little gas at the track.

Subject: [s-cars] Suspension Upgrade Confusion !?!?...

Hi Guys,

Thanks to everyone who has answered my previous questions. As some of
you know I am interested in getting the S6+ springs from EuroPrice but
it seems like that'll take a while as the group purchase is kind of
stalled. Now I'm thinking of going with the H&Rs, Koni sports, and ASW
camber plates. I was wondering if anyone has experience with this
setup on an Avant?

Is this setup something that a good mechanic should be able to install
without any issue? My shop has expressed concerns over getting the car
level and getting the alignment right as they haven't done a similar
job on an S6 Avant. I explained to them that I would be ordering the
ASW camber plates and ECS rear spacers if needed. They were fine with
the camber plates, but I don't think they liked the idea of the
spacers. In their opinion the spacers shouldn't be needed if the parts
were designed correctly.

I'm confused about the whole ECS spacer issue. Is the reason for the
spacer because the H&R springs are really intended for the V8Q sedan
and not an S6 Avant? If I go with the Koni sports will I still need
the ECS spacers or are they just for the Bilstein sports? I called
Blau and asked them about it and they said that they've never heard of
Avants needing spacers and have setup several customers cars using
H&Rs/Bilsteins without any issues.

Is there anything else that should be replaced while this is being
installed? When I was talking to Blau they mentioned these shock
accessory kits that include the bearings and mounts, boots, etc that
"were a good idea". Then on their website it claims that they are
seldom needed in the rear. WTF! 8 )

I'm also going to order a HSRB!

Thanks!

Later,
Matt
