Make sure that you release the fuel pressure before unscrewing the fittings
otherwise you may get a faceful of fuel. You can relieve the pressure by
pulling the fuel pump relay and running the car till it dies. Also make
sure that when you are unscrewing the fittings from the filter you are not
simultaneously twisting the fuel line thereby breaking it off and having to
route a new line.

Subject: [s-cars] Fuel filter change?

(Sorry to bring up such an elementary topic but...) My car runs rough when I
attempt hard acceleration and I think the fuel filter may be guilty. It
certainly looks ancient anyway. I just bought a replacement fuel filter and
am about to do the swap. It looks very straightforward but since I am
greenhorn wrench-turner I thought I'd ask if there was anything
counter-intuitive about the process or other stumbling blocks. I did find a
techarticle for changing fuel filters on A4s over at Audiworld with pics,
that said the job should be done with the engine cold.

Anyone have any other tips before I do the job?

  Thanks

  Alex Williams
