FWIW  the ipod hardwire is not really that difficult.  Heck even I did it
(by just robert hacking away,) but there will be a scary amount of wires
running about.  Good training for when you do an ignition coil install.  

I wrote a btdt some time ago.  Might even be on the old yahooligan list.

Also; by incorporating this Belkin car charger you can plug the 8mm head
phone jack (with Y rca connectors on the other end that connect to the
radio) into this and then you have only one clean connection to the bottom
of your ipod.

Here's a pic of how it looks in my wifes A8.  I use 4 small 3M dual lock
velco like pieces attached to the back to hold it in place.

It's very secure but removable. same stuff used on the tollway epass boxes.

Don't be scared, this is a great mod.
