Several stereo manufacturers have interfaces that you can buy to
connect an Ipod to the stereo AND control it from the head unit.

The sound quality is dependant on your audio files, the higher the
compression the lower the quality. If you keep a reasonably sized
file the audio quality is equal to that of CD's.
