i had the same problem.

open up the CD changer and clean the rollers.  over time,
they become dirty and lose their ability to grab the CDs.
my CD changer (a 10-disc) in my '92 has worked since i did
this cleaning a few years ago.  i used rubbing alcohol to
clean the rollers, and sprayed various moving parts with
silicone lubricant.

you'll need to reset the CD changer.  easiest way is to
pull the appropriate circuit breaker from the box under
the hood on the driver's side.
