[s-cars] While we are on the subject of WGFVs...

Well,
I'm on mountain time, so my posts weren't as late as you Ohio folk might think. My reference to sonic nozzles, and their availability at Home Depot, was simply in jest relating to the absolute absurdity of the notion that the pipe fitting coming out of the turbo scroll was anything more than just that... a pipe fitting. BTW, you can locate that fitting anywhere within the scroll, and it will work just the same... BTDT. And I don't drink.
I've been in threads related to how the WGFV works more than a few times... and the battle continues about what I contend are fairly straightforward facts:
1) The stock WG spring will only allow 1 bar of boost, unassisted by the ECU boost control system that is actuated by the WGFV.
2) The only way the spring can become "stronger" to allow more boost, is by applying vacuum to the bottom of the WG diaphragm. It's the only option. The fact that the fitting is, in essence, a venturi vacuum generator, can't be argued. I'll measure it soon, if folks are interested.
I think Mark is right... sealing it would also provide a measure of increase... because once the WG valve started to open, a vacuum would be created inside the chamber... "stiffening" the spring... but certainly not much.
At this point... I'm going to bow out of the WGFV topic. If folks want a vacuum measurement from the line going from the WGFV to the WG, I'll get one.
Adios,
Dave

I'd like to bring to everybody's attention the fact that these posts are
being made in late evening, around midnight or later.
I submit that the percent measure of alcohol content must be rising
the later it is in the evening. Thoughts of "sonic nozzles" and
availability at Home Depot for under $2 are enough to make my case.
Maybe it was overspray from the microprocessor controlled alcohol injection
system inadvertently installed in the HVAC air intake?

Grappa or Vodka, that was the question ...
