[s-cars] While we are on the subject of WGFVs...

looks like my low boost problem is fixed. it appears to
have been the oxygen sensor, of all things. i hope i
didn't just jinx myself by saying this. i waited several
days to post this because i wasn't sure if the low boost
problem would come back. it hasn't, so far.
you may recall that i said i didn't know whether the O2
sensor had ever been replaced, and the car has 132k miles.
i installed a generic O2 sensor and then went for a short
drive to a friend's house. the car had the same low boost
and weak response, so i concluded that hadn't fixed it.
however, the next day, i drove the car to lake tahoe to go
skiing, and somewhere along the way, the boost came back.
the car has been producing plenty of boost (up to 2.5 bar)
since then. i thought perhaps it was the cold weather up
at tahoe, and that there was a thermal intermittent in one
of the sensors, but i've been back in the bay area for 3 days,
and the car has been driven 700 miles with no low boost
issues since i replaced the O2 sensor.
the car was great up at tahoe, BTW. four adults with their
ski equipment, duffel bags, and several sleeping bags, all
in the car. heated seats for everybody. cruised at high
speeds, with plenty of power for passing slowpokes on
1-lane roads. we drove up in a big snowstorm, topped off
by a climb up a steep unplowed road to the cabin. the snow
was up to the bumper. i locked the rear differential and
simply drove up to the cabin. i stalled the engine twice
before i realized how much power was required to push through
the snow. i _like_ those BFG g-force KDWS tires. they're
great in the snow (the car felt as good in the snow as my
brother's saab 9-2x did with blizzak LM10s), and great in
the dry. with the same tires, i was back in the bay area
buzzing tight freeway ramps at 70 mph and WOT in 3rd. the
g-force KDWS uses the same carcass as the g-force KD,
producing excellent steering response.
the headlights are pretty bad, though. i just bought a
set of HIDs.
