We once worked with a company that supplied wire harnesses to Volvo.
They told me that a crimp, performed with the correct tools, is a
superb method of joining wires. It can be made so well that it is
water tight. We made some prototype harnesses for Volvo and had to buy
a hand tool (next best) that cost a fortune.

Don't confuse a properly perfomed crimp with the stuff that us shade
tree wrenches can perform using cheap, OTS tools.
