Jim,
Have you really carefully checked the wires from the POS to the coils? It
doesn't take much for them to short out. Is there someone close by that you
could swap the whole harness with? Possibly you have done this and I missed
it.
Best of luck, I'm impressed with what you've done to get to the bottom of
this.
