I think it is a reasonable DIY job... but I don't have a real normal outlook on such jobs.  If you have 4 good jack stands to hold it all up there, and a good floor jack that rolls smoothly, it isn't tough.
 
If you plan on upgrading in the future, I'd consider a quick swap, instead of a full blown effort.  By "quick swap" .... I mean just replace the clutch, PP, throwout bearing, and pilot bearing.  Don't bother getting into the hassles of resurfacing or analyzing the flywheel.  It will be shot, but if upgrading within the next year or so, really could be left until later... cost-wise.
 
If you do this, you can get away with removing both half shafts, your driveshaft... disconnecting your shift linkage and slave cylinder... and simply separate your trans and slide it back enough to do the work, rather than taking it completely out.
 
This is what I did a few months ago, to install my "Torsen rear diff exploder" clutch.  The whole job took about 5 hours of fairly unrushed effort.

My clutch needs replacement, evidently 264,000+ miles is the
limit for it! :-)

Is this a  reasonably DIY job at home with floor jack, jack
stands, and basic tools? Or is this a PITA take it to a
professional who has a lift and the right tools?

Trying to minimize my costs, baby is due April 1 and the wife
has assembled a list a mile long of "must have" baby stuff.
I really don't have the funds available to pay to have this job
done by a pro.

What is the best source for all the wear items that need to be
replaced?

Does anyone have a list of parts I should purchase?

Anyone within reasonable driving distance of Kalamzoo, MI willing
to help me do this job? :-)
