I didn't want to just believe you either... and am also running the same test. Mine are still fine, and have been in there longer than Corey's... and almost certainly more miles, as I travel a bunch in my S4.
One possible difference, however, is that I completely removed the rubber boot. This leaves air space between the coil assembly and the head, and certainly reduces heat transfer.
Either way, I am prepared for the failure if it happens... with 2 new coils stashed in the trunk, just in case.

Subject: [s-cars] End of 1.8t coil pack "science project"
Corey, on the S2 forum, who is a 034Motorsports distributor in England
just completed a 1.8t coil pack "science project". He didn't want to
just
believe me that the 1.8t coil packs would die from the heat if the OEM
20v
Turbo coil pack cover was installed over them. SO he installed the 034
coil pack conversion kit AND the OEM coil pack cover and waited to see
what
would happen (the "science project"). He started this project on May
2nd.
It ended yesterday, July 2nd, with a failure of the 1.8t coil pack on
his
no. 5 cylinder.
He says he is now going to work on some kind of air scoop to improve
cooling.
Dave F. (with the 1.8t coil pack conversion running without the OEM
coil
pack cover since Sept. 05)
