I would check the resistance values out of the throttle position sensor. If the TPS fails, it could never cause a dropping cylinder effect, but could cause a stumble, power loss, and cutout.
Good luck,
Dave

Subject: [s-cars] More Help Needed on Miss/Stutter/Power Loss
Folks,
I am still trying to track down the root cause of my M/S/PL (see
subject) on a 95.5 S6 Avant with 105K on the clock.
Symptoms are intermitent loss of power, stumble, rough running as if a
cylinder dropped out. It does not act like my previous POS channel
failure in that is has been going on too long. I am looking at fuel
supply issues, but that is only a guess. I have never been able to
pin it down to one cylinder going bad.
Seems to occur more at low RPM's than at high. Seems to occur more
"off boost" than on. Sometimes when it happens on the freeway (5th
gear, RPM's about 3K) I can get it to smooth out by rapid fluctuations
of the throttle. This is not a sure fire cure by any stretch however.
Does not seem to happen when the engine is cold.
I just replaced the fuel pressure regulator with one another
enthusiast had (about 6K miles on it) but that did not fix the
problem. I have a fuel filter on order and will swap it in as soon as
I can.
Anyone have thoughts on this one?
D.
