[s-cars] brake light problem

I was following a friends 94 S4 in Vail at night, when I noticed that 
when he had the low beams on and cruising on the interstate, the left 
brake light was on.  When he flipped to the high beams the brake light 
went out.  Each time he went to the low beams the left brake light would 
come on.  I'm guessing this is the known problem of the wiring harness 
breaking at the trunk hinge.  Has anyone seen this before any maybe have 
a fix?  The car has about 160k miles.
