The fifty bucks should not be necessary.  Pull the radio and get it's 
serial number from the sticker on the side of the radio.  Then visit 
your stealer with proof of ownership.  If the stealer knows you then 
you probably won't even need the registration card.  It is a very 
simple matter for him to look the code up in the Audi database and 
give it to you.  This should be a no-charge item.  BTDT several times 
over my 23 year relationship with my local (60 miles one way) stealership.
