Serge,
I'm sorry to hear of the demise of your Avant. I went through a similar
experience 2 years ago. I'll be happy to share my dated info......
I'll send you a separate spreadsheet with confirmed sales of a variety of
Avants. You can also look at the following link:
http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/s-car-list/database
Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this has been updated recently.
I wrestled w/ the insurance company of the guy that totaled my avant and was
able to convince them to pay about 22% over book for my car (which was
stock, plus a MTM chip), due to the excellent condition and rarity of the
car. Just remember, their insurance company wants to minimize the
likelihood of your filing a lawsuit especially one involving any medical
injuries. I never mentioned this, but when they paid my claim, they went
ahead and threw in $1500 for my wife's 3 visits to an acupuncturist to cover
her pain and suffering. You could throw in the additional threat of a suit
to reimburse you for the loss of your collector's vehicle with all of the
extra improvements.
I also used a letter from a local Audi dealer that was familiar with the car
and had a similar one for sale on his lot.
Finally, the really good news is that a few weeks later I drove by a 95.5
Black Avant parked on the street. I stopped and left my biz card asking if
they wanted to sell it......5 days later I drove home with the car with only
77k miles!!......when one door closes, you never know where the next door
will lead.
Good luck,
Robert Welch

Subject: [s-cars] Bummer... Another Avant bites the dust
Greetings Fellow S//folk
I am really bummed. A couple of Sundays ago, a minivan driven by an
individual whose head was deeply inserted into his posterior orifice
attempted to make a left turn from the far right lane, crossing 4 lanes of
traffic before the intersection. Unfortunately, I was going straight in the
left lane. In spite of my (and the 4 pot AP brakes) best efforts, his rear
driver's side bumper corner hit my passenger headlight, doing enough damage
to total the car. I was in the car with my wife and two kids, everybody is
fine, and I am thankful for that.
I cannot express with enough sarcasm what a joy it has been dealing with
insurance company reps, cops, body shops (the car was initially deemed
fixable, until the shop opened up the hood, and found the radiator came into
contact with the spinny engine bits) in New York.
So now I'm reaching out to the list for any info on recent purchases of 95.5
Avants. Especially Europa ones with 90K miles full RS2 (EM, Turbo,
Injectors, MAF, 3bar software, Samcos, Hyperboost BPV, Eibach/bilstein, rear
torsen diff, Stromung) as mine was equipped. I am trying to work with the
adjuster to establish the car's value based on past sales. I understand
there is a registry that was compiled with this purpose in mind, but I could
not locate any reference to this on the s-car site. Any help, or friendly
advice would be greatly appreciated.
TIA,
Serge Filanovsky
