That shouldn't be an issue.  Dave F's instructions show grinding the rubber boot that is at the top of the coils.  I elected to simply remove the boot altogether.  With the boot off, I get a very firm "snap" into place when the coil is pushed onto the plug.  It will certainly not wiggle loose.

I've had the same thought. What holds them in on the 1.8T? I seem to  
remember some sort of plastic decorative cover on my 2.7T S4, but  
that memory's buried in the mists of time...
