      having water on the carpet does not sound good, have you smelled or tasted it? (coolant?)  there is a good chance that your heater core is leaking, (this is a fun one).  but I don't know how this could stop the engine unless you ran dry, which did not happen?  
   
  the ECU is accessible two ways, first to go through the engine bay removing tons of things and spending lots of time.  second is to cut the carpet for fast easy access.  many dealers when for what ever reason will cut the carpet to get to ECU, mine was the same way as well as many others I have seen in past two years.---
   
  ---or the car might be chipped?
