To be honest, I don't think you'll notice a difference in lighting
output from your vantage point.  The beam pattern is controlled by the
reflector and shade in the projector assembly.  I think the benefit is
from the perspective of other drivers.  I don't know for sure but I
believe that the larger un-fluted area on the HID lens is more for
controlling light scatter to minimize blinding of on-coming traffic.
HIDs are more sensitive to this.  And while our cars have them as
standard equipment in the NA market, the use of HIDs require the car to
be equipped with headlight washers to provide as clean a lens as
possible, as a dirty lens will also affect light scatter.

So, I would opt for the HID lenses even though it may not provide me
with any additional lighting.
