[s-cars] Low/High beam switch
Curtis Asplund
casplund at amazeent.com

It's been a few years since I have been able to pull back on the stalk to flash my high beams. Lately it won't let me turn the high beams on unless I mess with it while turning the wheel and even that is a 50/50 shot.
Is this new part time or can it be disassembled, cleaned and reassembled? Any instructions, advice or precautions on doing this?
Thanks,
Curtis

Do like I did.
1. Abandon cd changer after several failed.
2. Get a High Capacity iPod and a Monster Cable charger/FM transmitter
and
enjoy. Spend the money to get a good charger/FM transmitter (most suck)
and
the quality is good.
The Good:
-almost unlimited storage
-iPod is always charged and ready to go anywhere anytime
-Can take system into any car without hassles.
-iSkin (brand) silicone rubber case fits under ash tray, is easy
to get to
and does not move around in high G maneuvers
-Black iSkin cover matches my interior
-Red indicator lights on Monster Cable matches red instrument
and dash
lights of the Audi
-Can hook up other peoples iPods on road trips etc
-iPod can be used a lot of other places (skiing, Cycling etc)
-Bose head unit FM radio does not usually fail and are available
used
-Itunes can be hooked up to home stereo
The Bad:
-cords are a bit messy, but are manageable.
-Small screen and menu navigation makes it very hard to select
music while
driving
-stock bose speaker amplifiers sometimes fry themselves making
your car
stink (you can find used amps if you try)
-Cost is about $400-$500 depending on the capacity and model
I am too lazy to set up play lists so I mostly use the shuffle feature.
The
shuffle feature is great for me, I have over 5000 songs on the iPod, and
I
get to hear stuff I never knew I had! I do fast foward a lot though.
Highly recommended!
Jack>>>
Ditto - all that Jack, and yup, lot of shuffle / fast forward. Who
cares, it RULES. I will never buy another CD, nor deal with another
fried changer. Loving it. Well, until the Croolynites found mine 8-(.
Another one coming soon. And sound quality be damned, it sounds just
fine. Esp. since I'm @ WOT with windows open much of the time anyway
8-).
Why anyone wouldn't go this route is totally beyond me.
-Paul tunez coming out my backside - like 10,000++ worth K.

The diameter of the 235/45 is a little bigger than ideal, 225/45 is closer to
stock diameter. Having said that, 235/45 should fit fine, I ran 255/40-17's on
a ET 35 wheel and they fit, but did rub on the mudflaps under full lock.

No problems with that size on my UrS6 sedan, and that's with the Eibach
ProKit.

Igor,
You wrote once that you replaced the seals in your V8 diff before
installing. Do you have a minute to tell me P/N's (if you have them)
and how you got old seals out and new ones in?
Thanks.

Its the same part numbers as your stock diff, I will post them tonight if no
one else has.
There are 2 seals, a large one about 4 inches in dia and small one about 1.5
inches.
After removing the axle stubs, measure the depth of the seals so you know how
far to tap them back in.
The small seal will pop out easily with a screwdriver or small prybar. The
large seal takes more effort. I drilled a small hole in the metal near the
edge and screwed in a sheet metal screw and pryed it with vice-grips, being
careful not to damage the soft aluminum.
Also, be aware that some differentials have a shim between the axle stub and
the gears. Make sure you make note of which side it goes on and also mark the
stubs for left and right so you can put them back in the original orientation.

I need to replace the driver's side inner trailing arm bushing. I decided that I would buy 2 bushings and do both sides to keep things even, but can anyone suggest a method to press the old one out and the new one in that does not involve removing the whole trailing arm and taking it to a shop? Is there a tool I can get to do the bushings without removing the arms?

I'm assuming you are talking about the front control arm?
Here's my spin on the topic:
Replace the hole arm. The control arms are now $89 each from Blau, and include swaybar bushings. Why bother replacing the bushings, only to have the ball joint potentially fail in the very near future? It just isn't worth the effort.
I would also suggest that you replace both at once. The job isn't particularly difficult... and takes no specialized tools, compared to pressing in new bushings.
Also, be sure to order the small sleeve that goes over the control arm mount bolt at the subframe.
That's my .02.
Dave

Anybody know if the monster I cruze will work with our head units?
I believe the icruze is a direct interface and not a FM modulator.
If not, who make the best fm modulator?
Thanks
