I've always found it simpler and more useful to have a CB in the vehicle
instead of a radar/laser detector.  I know about the speed traps sometimes
more than 50 miles before I get to them.  Plus if I need directions or
assistance for some reason, I have another means of help besides a cell
phone (which doesn't always work in the mountains).

I used to run a radar detector years ago but I just can't beat talking to
someone to find out where the police are at.

I've got the CB mounted under the back seat on the drivers side and a
microphone with all the controls and speaker mounted in the arm rest.  I
pull it out when I want to use it and close it up when not in use. 
Besides the antennae on the trunk, you'd never know it's in the car.
