Any insight into the differences in vaning?

You're correct in that the E34 and E39 M5s used floating rotors in eurospec
trim, as did the E36 and E46 M3s. I don't know if the E60 M5 uses them.

I'm not building a Spec Miata, so the brake ducting would be strictly for
trackdays,
removed if necessary for rules compliance in Solo2.

As for my particular brake fade issue, I think it was a combination of using
Hawk HPS pads, Ate Super Blue and too much braking on my part.
