Iain,
Welcome to the dark side of Audis - and audifans lists. Best I can tell
from the Bentley, you want to check out fuse S61, which is located in
Auxiliary Relay Panel III. ARP III is located behind the passenger side
kick panel. Fuse S61 is in location 8, which is all the way to the
right. May also want to check location 7, which is all the way to the
left of that panel. This is the heated O2 sensor fuse (S73), and while
I highly doubt it got shorted at the same time, you might as well take a
quick look while you're there as it is in the circuit through the
coolant pump control module.
BTW, the after run pump hardly ever comes on after normal driving
(except for Paul's normal driving conditions), especially in the winter
months. In the summer it will come on more frequently, but only after
about 5 minutes of sitting once the engine is shut down.
