[s-cars] Intermittent hard start

Steve,
I had the identical issue....I would almost guarantee its an FPR. I got
mine through thepartsbin.com...I am sure Scott Mockry also carries them at a
reasonable price. If I recall, it is now like $60. If it ever gets
consistent at not starting cold but starting warm you can reach a definite
diagnosis by running the fuel pump for 10 to 15 seconds before turning the
key on and then try to start. If it starts right away then that is proof
that it's fuel bleeding off.

Tom and all who have replied...

I think I'll start with the FPR. Went to the stealer, and they want $98
minus 10% club discount. What is the best source for this part. I did get
a fuel filter and washers to change at the same time.

Paul K. where did you go for a $40 FPR??

Thanks all.

Steve,

Ok, I won't jump on your fuel pump. That problem is junk and fuel varnish
preventing the check valve from letting the fuel drain from the line.

You should not have the feeling that it takes 6 revolutions. It should be
more like an instantaneous start. The fuel rail should retain almost all
operating pressure for more than 10 minutes providing immediate high
pressure fuel to the injectors. If the system leaks fuel pressure it leaks
fuel, internally if the FPR allows the pressure to bleed off to the return
line. If the FPR does not hold correct pressure when operating,
there are usually other symptoms and DTC's and MIL light blinking,
and probably poor
fuel economy.

A fuel pressure tester would be nice, otherwise look for leaks in fuel lines
and vacuum lines close to the FPR. Absent any leaks, suspect the FPR or its
seals.

Poor spray pattern from the injectors could cause some delay in starting as
well.
