[s-cars] Audi "Streets of Tomorrow Ride and Drive", or...

Well guess I'll chime into all this nonsense too. I had a great day only because of the people that were with me. I swear my times flogging the RS4 twice were in the mid 30's, no matter what Paul says. Sometimes it felt like it. New cars are doing little to impress me, except when you get to flog them when you don't own them. I care for a bit more feedback, lots of noise, and lift throttle oversteer for those who can understand what it is. All of which is disappearing today because a computer knows best. The throttle lag occured at many times in all the cars. Nothing a hard wired cable and throttle body couldn't fix.

The A3 was the king, or queen, of all let downs. No power and certainly no oversteer could ever be induced. The most fun this car ever gave me was when Pauley went in too hot and plowed into the cones. The poor marketing geek in the passenger seat pretended to have fun, but wrote Paul off as rainman then. Bob and I became excellent drivers at that point:)

RS4 or "R4" as marketed, was deceptably fast but not too much feel for excitement. These cars only prove poor drivers will find ways to get themselves in too much trouble quickly and will only wonder how to sue Audi because the laws of physics could not be overcome by ESP, rev limiters, and many other computer controls. It was great flogging the heck out of it though. Being the "professional drivers" we were accused of was only more proof of the stupidity surrounding us.

The S8 was cool to catch a glimpse at, ever knowing a $4000 aftermarket warranty would never cover the expenses this car will generate in a few years. All the marketing geeks wanted to hear was "turn up the bass dude" from the overpriced B&O stereo. Rumors were it was a $7000 option. I'll take that and buy another car instead please.

The most knowledgeable people we met were from Audi motorsports. Good to see them there bored to death by unknowing spectators looking at stereos and SUV's. Somehow, I feel we rescued them, albeit for a few minutes.

A great day none the less. We ate well, drank a bit, had some comradery, and even managed to not get thrown out. If nothing, it proved I need to keep my older cars to keep me in check as to how a car functions and can teach you a few lessons.

Acutally, Dennis, I drove the 2.0T A3's to compare to the FWD GTI's. I did
not like the DSG in the A3 at all. Drive it back-to-back with a GTI and
maybe you'll see what I mean, or maybe not.
