How about failing fuel pump... sounds more likely given the symptoms!

Ignition switch is 6 months old- OEM dealer part.  Check engine light is
not on.  For those of you with lawnmowers, the car acts much in the way
a mower will die when it runs out of gas. (Yes, the car has 1/2 tank).
Could I have gotten bad gas?
