[s-cars] CPS GB #2 Update , and follow up to steering wheel

Pardon my ignorance but can anyone fill me in on the necessity of a new CPS? 
   
  I'm not getting any feedback on my steering wheel question. As a follow up, would it be possible to completely switch out the steering column or whatever, without spending a mint, if I were hell-bent on installing a more recent Audi 3-spoke steering wheel?
