Hey guys,
I am trying to replace the cd player hookup to the radio with my ipod which
I have created a custom cable for. I currently have the cd player installed
in my car so I figure I can just unhook the audio cables from the cd player
and replace them with the ipod ones. My question is where is best to access
the cd player audio cables, I know that most of the cd player wires are in
the trunk of the car but they do actually connect to the head unit, correct?
Basically I want to take out the cd player as much as possible and put the
ipod in its place.
To do this I need to understand a little more about the cd player system,
when I turn my cd player on it seems to override the radio/cassette. So I
think I have a few options:
Leave the cd player completely installed and just change the audio in wires
from the cd player to the ipod. This way I could turn on the cd player and
the stereo would think the signal from the cd player and will operate
normally.
Or if I could find out which wire it is that sends the signal to the
headunit to switch over to the cd player I could just create a switch that I
could turn on to toggle the ipod and get rid of the cd player completely.
This is ideal as I could get rid of the cd player controller and wire I have
coming from my center console.
I have the headunit out and I see where there are audio inputs from the cd
player, but it is unclear which wire it is that tells the headunit the cd
player is on. Also on the head unit there is only a 1 wire input for each
left and right audio channels(2 wires total), I assume this is the +(red)
wire for each channel but where is the ground for each channel, is there a
common ground? There should be 4 wires, or 3 with a common ground, to
correctly hookup a stereo input, right? Any help is greatly appreciated.
