Is the door unclosable? Or already closed not to open?
Does it open from the outside?
Assuming that it's open.
Don't necessarily take it all apart ... yet.
Could be the latch corroded itself together (btdt drivers side.)
First~
Go here http://www.kanolabs.com/ get some Penephite.
Also available elsewhere.
Some kind of silicone mit graphite concoction.
Spray this from outside the latch into all possible openings in the latch
mechanism. Work the latch from outside handle. Latch can be moved from the
outside IRRC. Do this one million times whilst lubricating. This should
free it if its corroded. Sometimes penetrant will need to work overnight.
Could be all that you need.
I unnecessarily took my whole door apart (including window frame) to get the
latch out, only to find that nothing was broken other than 10 years of crud
had gummed up the mechanism.
If you cannot wait, a FLBS (friendly local bike shop) will probably have a
spray can of Boeshield T-9 spray may also work.

YMMV
