Ivan,
I am interested in what the benefits are of creating a microcontroller to interface between the headunit and the ipod are.  Will you be able to show song titles and such on the hu?  
I created my own ipod interface this summer with a relay switch setup so I could easily switch between the ipod and cd changer.  I used a switch out of a friend's 100 parts car and replaced one of the blank ones on the center console so it looks completely stock :-)  I could provide details for this project if anyone is interested, it is fairly simple and very effective.  I am currently in an undergraduate program for electrical engineering so I hope to be able to upgrade my system to what you are talking about soon.

I'm working on a "real" integration project for iPod. It will have microcontroller based interface that will translate CD Changer commands from HU to iPod and back.

Have everything ready(parts/research), just don't have time. 

I have Gamma CC unit and planning on making support for 10 playlists (1 for each disk)
