Wylie, that's very interesting.  My car is a '92 and I have also always had
a '93 manual.  I have noticed that my manual says "Printed in Germany 12-91"
so I wonder if this is just par for the course with a '92.  Anybody else
know?

Anybody care to share what books "should" be in a full set of manuals for
this car (owners, not shop)...?

I (shamefully) just pulled the manual out of the glove box for the first
time today after a month of owning it as I wanted to see if there was
anything I'd missed (Audis of this vintage are not too terribly different
across the lines) or hadn't seen before on the cq or V8 only to realize that
my set of manuals is for a 93 S4, not a 92.  The VIN build sticker that's in
the maintenance book is the correct one for my car, so it must surely be the
books that were delivered with it, just not the right year (VIN and options
confirm it's a 92).  It was a Dec 92 delivery and the car had about 400
miles on it, so it could well have been a demo or something, and they could
have misplaced the manuals and scrounged up a set that looked the part
(don't ask me how I know that goes on )

Any help would be appreciated.
