[s-cars] Valve Cover Gasket

Thanks all. I finished up and I can't see any leaks. The real leak that I
had that prompted me to change it was into the spark plug holes. It is nice
to see that a manufacturer actually machined the valve cover to take the lip
that gets inserted in to hold the gasket in place. In years of working on
cars this is the first one I have seen that has done that and I have been
wondering for years why manufacturer's didn't do this.

Subject: RE: [s-cars] Valve Cover Gasket
The camshaft sprocket, or rather the camshaft itself, is sealed by a
conventional circular lip seal similar to the crank seal that just slips
over the camshaft and seals against the head on the bottom half and the
cam bearing block on the top half. The valve cover gasket lays over
that cam bearing block. The location of the half moons will be self
evident. There's going to be three half moon openings in the cylinder
head, one front and rear for the intake cam, and a third at the back of
the exhaust cam. These openings allow for line boring of the cam
bearings.
As for what needs to be removed, you need to take the breather hoses off
the valve cover - one right side front and one at the rear. Take the
coil pack off. Unclip the timing belt cover to allow you to pull it out
of the way. Remove 6 bolts holding down the valve cover around the
perimeter, and the two hex shaped stand-offs that are exposed when you
remove the coil cover. May need to give the valve cover a good whap with
a rubber mallet to unstick it.
