[s-cars] Lighting poll - McCullough HIDs vs HIR bulbs

A caveat:

Although I am currently in HIR mode, I do have an HID kit (list GB) lying in
wait.

Overall, I am impressed with the HIR bulbs. The biggest problem is the DOT
Z-shaped cut-off. It cuts off the beam in such a way that I have perfectly
lit deer legs. The euro cut (15 degree rise off the centerline) would help
tremendously there, but that would require modifying the mask in the
projector itself (which I understand has been done by more than a few
listers) so that is not bulb dependent. I plan to do both when I do the HID
mod, as well as new Euro lenses. That being said, I'd say in less rural
situations, the lights with HIR's are remarkable, and my understanding from
other listers is that the HID conversions are yet another step up of similar
magnitude.

FWIW, the projector cut-off is soooo precise that it does limit low beam
range. The reflector Hi-Efficiency H1's I have in the Saabaru have enough
light spray to overcome the DOT pattern so they're actually better than the
//S6 projectors on low beam. The high beam (both cars HIR) is pretty well
ridiculous on both, pretty well sun in a bottle. BTW, both sets of lights
outperform the best of the Euro's I've had in my various cars, no matter
WHAT wattage bulbs I was willing to use.
