Phillips based kits can be had for $400 or so:

I don't have any experience with either this seller or the Gen 4 Phillips
ballast...
But I *am* thinking about upgrading the lighting on my wife's '96 A6. It's
got euro lamps now, but the lighting is poor as compared to the xenons on my
'99. And I was pleased overall with the performance of the McCullough
lighting in my '95.5 S6 avant with the euro lamps...
Of course, with my 16YO son on the hunt for his own Audi, I may be looking
at doing two sets of upgrades...fortunately I already have a set of C4 euro
lamps Rossatoed in the basement.
