Calvin-
Just having fun with the commuting / road racing bit. I was unfunnily
(to basically anyone but me) suggesting the two are one in the same 8-),
sorry to confuse you. I *said* to never listen to me, no?
Agreed, why bother going with the same ratio for 6th as you had in 5th.
The drop from my 5th to my 0.68 6th was perfectly suited to both
powerband and efficiency - or lack thereof in my issueridden case.
Yes, the 4.2L was optional in Europe. My CMG was Kluge-rebuilt,
imported over, and bolted right up - only mod was having a return line
fab'd up to mount where the trans cooler would normally be, otherwise,
plug and pray.
HTH, or doesn't, or something. I think.

Paul, maybe I am misunderstanding you here, but what I meant was that I
don't see the advantage of the CLOSE ratio 6 speed, i.e. the one where
the
6th gear is the same ratio as the stock 5th gear, for anything other
than
road racing. The 0.64 or 0.68 6th gear I can definitely see the
advantage
for commuting.
You said you got yours from a '93 S4 V-8???
I must admit, I am not at all up on all the European models but I was
not
aware of a '93 S4 with a V-8. So do trannies like this bolt right in,
or
are they major surgery to get into the car?
