High side pressures typically range from 150, to potentially near 400psi... whereas the low side should be 40psi or less. The pressures found in a cylinder of refrigerant are usually about 70psi. You can guess the problem.
In other words, hook up a can to the high side, and you may blow it up... if the engine is on, and the system is running. If it is not running, you usually have to heat the can to increase its pressure to the point where it will charge through the high side port. An idle and cool system will usually balance out to about 70-100psi.

Well, there you have it...I just got lucky. Sorry, did not mean to mis-advise anybody. I am puzzled, though, since I did not warm up the can or anything and it charged OK. I remember the pressures I was reading were around 150 psi. Do I happen to have a low side port installed on my car? Now I am curious. The one I was remembering was a port that I had to crawl under the car to get to.
