Ouiiin! I wanted it to be only the slave. OK. New clutch. At last, I have to
pay for the ice trials in Vermont.
Vincent.

Same symptoms on a '91 200 I own...the cure was of course a new clutch.

Vincent;
At ~270k km a couple of the fingers on the pressure plate in the UrS4
decided they had lived out their useful life, resulting in similar symptoms
to yours. The clutch would not fully disengage and the pedal felt very soft.
In addition, I could feel a vibration in the pedal when I depressed it. I
didn't drive it long enough to notice slipping under power; I just eased it
home while perfecting my clutchless shifting technique. Unfortunately, the
only way to verify this problem is to remove the tranny. I replaced the
slave cylinder first hoping for an easy fix but it was not to be.
In addition to replacing the pressure plate, clutch disc, release bearing,
guide tube, and slave cylinder, I also replaced the rear main engine seal
and the tranny input shaft seal.
Good luck!

This one apparently felt in this morning audifans' black hole, so I'm
posting it again (see post below). Sorry for the WOB if it made it the first
time.
BTW, in case I have to do a clutch job (not sure yet I'm willing to do it
myself but...), my part list is:
- clutch disk
- pressure plate
- release bearing
- pilot bearing
- clutch alignment tool
Am I missing something? I've seen parts such as pilot bushing or release
bearing guide. Should I have them on hand (car is 200Kmiles) or not?
TIA.
Vincent.

Objet : HELP: Half clutch on the S-bitch
Hi all,
Looking for the list wisdom once more.
The S-bitch decided to take it lazy this evening only declutching half way.
The clutch pedal is much softer than usual, the gears very hard to engage,
but the clutch still engages at the same pedal position. When the pedal is
fully depressed, the clutch seems to be (and apparently is) not fully
disengaged. The car even moves on clutch slippage, though much less than an
autobox on drive. Besides, when I hit hard the go pedal, I have clutch
slippage in all gears (except first as I've not been able to engage it so I
was starting in 2nd). Now, the clutch slippage on boost may only be due to
the 200Kmiles aggravated by the repeated start in 2nd.
I was somewhat suspecting the slave cylinder as the master have been
replaced 3 years ago due to the common broken linkage. But does this slave
cylinder half fails sometimes, or am I in for a release bearing or something
that easy to replace?
In case it can explain something, I parked the car in a mild slope this
morning, 1st gear engaged, no e-brake, and found an half-declutching car
when I came back in the evening.
Any help appreciated, especially if it can help me not changing half a dozen
inaccessible parts which are not related in any way with the problem... as I
usually do.
TIA.
Vincent.
