Stock MAF will work... so will an RS2. The plumbing depends on the size of the inlet on your 3071. If it is a 3 inch, it'll be pretty easy. A 4 inch will require you to use a 4 to 3 inch transition 90 degree elbow. Moving from the air filter towards the turbo... first is the MAF. Then you need to plumb in the bypass air between the MAF and the turbo... the crankcase vent, if you plan to recirculate... and a small nipple in there if you will be retaining the stock WGFV function. Doing it this way will place your air filter down by the stock oil cooler. The MAF will be close enough to where it was to plug it in as usual.

If you can fit it in, I would recommend that you take the air horn (the one with the dividers) out of the stock airbox, and put it into the mix before the MAF. It will help smooth the flow through the MAF, and help reduce strange running behaviors.

Good luck,
Dave

Subject: [s-cars] Removing AIR-Box needing MAF tube help(93 S4)

I am in the midst of removing my stock turbo on my 93' S4 and replacing it
with a Garrett 3071 which will live at a 30* angle off the header in the
area where the air box was..I will for the time being be running my Motronic
and down the road going with stand-alone and wont need myMAF........NEED to
construct /modify or purchase a new intake tube with a possible RS2 MAF ..OR
will the stock MAF flow enough air...What is the best alternative plumbing
ffor a conical filter ,threw the MAF and into the turbo???? PICS or
explanations will do just fine !!!
