[s-cars] Intermittent cutout resolved - maybe

Hi Y'all,

A week or two ago I posted about an engine cutout problem. I got
several helpful replies and I've spent several enjoyable days under
the hood, under the dash, and inside the trunk searching out and
eliminating possible problem sources.

Finally, this morning, I eliminated the last suggestion (faulty
engine speed sensor - that wasn't it). Thinking... "OK, what's
left? It's just as if the ignition switch is being turned
off. Hmmm... I wonder... I think I have a new ignition switch in a
box somewhere. Search-search-search-aha! Here it is." Pull the
instrument cluster, pull the old switch and stick the new one
in. Crank the starter and the engine fired right up. OK, that's
good so far but it would start earlier and then die in a few
minutes. Let it idle. It idled for ~15 minutes - slightly rough
like maybe the ISV could use a bit of cleaning. OK, climb in and go
for a short drive. Engine ran fine. Come home and let it
idle. After an hour it's time for another short run. Did
fine. Came home again and shut Ms. Piggy down. I'm starting to feel
encouraged.

The funny thing is there were no other symptoms of a bad ignition
switch. The HVAC system ran. The lights worked. The windows
worked. Etc. Everything was working normally - except the
engine. However, it's beginning to look like the engine cutout
problem _may_ be resolved.

Now the next job. Solve the low boost problem. Maybe already
resolved, however, disconnecting the downpipe from the rest of the
OEM exhaust system gave an immediate increase in max boost from ~18
psig to 23-24 psig. The new Stromung downpipe and rear muffler
sections (on order and, I hope, on the way here) along with my
existing "test pipe" should help a lot to cure a plugged kitty. ;-)
